GMDSS and VTS radio communication systems

GMDSS and VTS radio communication systems are areas where we are pleased to extend our support, offering expertise in system design, equipment selection, and installation for ship-based radio communication systems (VHF, MF/HF), as well as GMDSS systems. Our team, with extensive global experience, specializes in the design and implementation of similar systems.

Here's a brief overview of each system:

GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System)

According to the "GMDSS manual" by the International Maritime Organization, the GMDSS ensures swift alerting of search and rescue authorities and nearby vessels during distress incidents, facilitating coordinated Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.

The system also handles urgency and safety communications, and the dissemination of maritime safety information (MSI), including navigational and meteorological warnings. Essentially, GMDSS empowers every ship, regardless of its operating area, to perform crucial communication functions vital for its safety and that of other ships in the vicinity.

GMDSS functions include:

  1. Alerting: Distress alerts via DSC on VHF, MF, or HF.

  2. SAR Coordinating Communications: Terrestrial or satellite radiotelephony.

  3. On Scene Communications: MF and VHF bands.

  4. Locating: SAR radar transponder, EPIRBs.

  5. MSI Promulgation: NAVTEX, Inmarsat EGC.

  6. General Radiocommunications: Any appropriate channels.

  7. Bridge-to-Bridge Communication: VHF radiotelephony.

VTS Radio Communication System

Radio communication equipment is seamlessly integrated into VTS applications, providing VTS Operators (VTSOs) with real-time situational assessments and facilitating timely services to VTS participants.

The VHF maritime band, primarily used for voice communication, is evolving with the potential expansion of VHF digital communications, incorporating Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and AIS for data exchange.

This digital shift offers advantages such as efficient bandwidth utilization and reduced error susceptibility. The development of the VHF Data Exchange System (VDES), including frequencies identified by the ITU at the World Radio Conference 2015, promises enhanced digital data functionality in the future.
